Klinger, was published late last year by Gasogene Books as the first volume in The Sherlock Holmes Reference Library. No-one can take from William Baring-Gould the honour of being the first to produce an annotated edition of the Canon, nor can we deny the achievements of Owen Dudley Edwards and his team in The Oxford Sherlock Holmes. However, it seems to me that as a collation of Holmesian (rather than Doylean), commentary Leslie Klinger's monumental project seems likely to surpass both its predecessors, choosing wisely from pretty much the full range of scholarship world-wide. I'm looking forward eagerly to the other 8 volumes. Reviewed by: Roger Johnson, [District Messenger 188, 1999]
