The Moriarty Principle: An Irregular Look at Sherlock HolmesType of material: Book Author: Rolf J. Canton Publisher: Galde Press, Box 460, Lakeville, MN 55044, USA Year: 1997 Pages: 272 Price: £19.95 Review: An actor and a long-time member of The Norwegian Explorers of Minnesota, Mr Canton gives us a delightful pot-pourri. There are essays on acting the part of Sherlock Holmes, on the Master's true birthday, on Greece and other subjects; a nicely illustrated 50th birthday tribute to the Norwegian Explorers (one of the busiest and most interesting of the many BSI scion societies; with our own Society, the Explorers erected the memorial plaque at the Reichenbach Falls in 1957); an updated rewrite of The Final Problem, influenced by Talbot Mundy, Sax Rohmer and others; a dramatised version as well, and a radio play, The Wireless Murders. The Moriarty Principle is a charmingly personal book, that introduces the fortunate reader to an engaging Sherlockian and his friends. These people are kinsprits, in Christopher Morley's felicitous phrase. (*Murder One carries the book and some other British specialists may do as well.*) Reviewed by: Roger Johnson, [District Messenger 172, 1997]
