Review: The latest publication from the ever-industrious Eric Monahan is a nice 40-page booklet entitled A Sherlock Holmes Miscellany, in which you’ll find one clever new adventure for Holmes, one brief and very neat parody, two essays on aspects of ‘Silver Blaze’, one on ‘The Engineer’s Thumb’, and one on a possible, even probable, inspiration for the character of Holmes - Gaboriau’s rather obscure detective M. Méchinet, whose one published chronicle contains several features that Conan Doyle would later incorporate into the first Holmes chronicle.
